FULL TIME POSITIONS

Purpose of Job:
 
Responsible for the administration, coordination, supervision, and implementation of the Basic Medical Assisting program.  This includes training, setting up clinical experiences and curriculum to meet certification requirements.  Certifications include:  registered medical assistant and phlebotomy.  Compliance with SouthernTech Board Policy and Oklahoma School Law is required.

Major Duties, Tasks, and Responsibilities:
 
Essential Functions of the Job:
  • Supports and promotes the SouthernTech adopted quality initiatives including the Baldrige criteria, Oklahoma Quality Award Foundation criteria, Tech Centers That Work, and Lean Office.
  • Recommends new approaches, policies, and procedures to effect continuous improvements in services to customers.
  • Supports and assists in the development and execution of the SouthernTech strategic plan.
  • Assigns appropriate instructional areas and formally evaluates instruction of the course material, in cooperation with the Director.
  • Responsible for reports and student records required by the State Department of Career and Technical Education. Provide testing and process required paper work for certificates available through the program.
  • Coordinates all program meetings, testing sessions, and student meetings and activities.
  • Develops and oversees program budgets.
  • Selects, coordinates schedule, and monitor sites for clinicals or work projects to enhance curriculum, if applicable,
  • Establish student dress code and establish a safe environment by ensuring students understand the proper safety procedures in the related trade.
  • Monitor and update inventory and equipment and report any discrepancies to keep inventory current.
  • Maintain CTSO class chapter and activities.
  • Play a leading role in Job Placement for graduates, and determine their employment status.
  • Coordinate and participate in program activities for SouthernTech including ODCTE summer conference.
  • Supervises student counseling, discipline, referrals, progress reports, and handbook rules and regulations.
  • Provide students the opportunity to learn and practice techniques in leadership and job-related skills.
  • Update technical skill levels as necessary to update curriculum and to deliver current, marketable training to students.
  • Maintain accurate attendance records in cooperation with the school registrar and evaluate student performance and assign grades.
  • Organize and supervise field trips that enhance student’s job awareness and broaden their knowledge of the field of study.
  • Design group learning projects that develop skills in teamwork and problem resolution.
  • Maintain current articulation agreements with cooperation colleges/universities and work closely with sending schools in the development and implementation of individual education plans for students with special needs.
  • Maintain State, National, and industry specific certifications as required by SouthernTech.
  • Instruct and assist students in operating computers utilizing a variety of educational software applications and technology.

Other:
  • Perform other duties and assume other responsibilities required, as directed by the Superintendent and Director.
  • Cooperate with the Director to align curriculum.
  • Cooperate with other personnel to ensure a positive learning environment.

Education, Knowledge, Skill, & Experience Requirements:
 
Qualifications: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required. Education and Experience:        
  • High School Diploma required, BSN preferred.
  • CMA certification required, Oklahoma RN License preferred.
  • Possess or be eligible for Oklahoma State Department of Education Provisional or Standard Teaching Certificate within the specified time frame as required by the State of Oklahoma Board of Education.
  • Must have 3 or more years of experience in field of instruction within the last 5 years.
 
Knowledge and Skills: 
  • Working knowledge of computerized office programs, including Microsoft Office, Word and Excel, Oklahoma School Law, federal and state laws, and the SouthernTech education system.
  • Function as an effective SouthernTech team player.
  • Ability to function professionally during high stress situations.
  • Ability to implement, facilitate, and complete multiple projects in a timely and efficient manner.
 
Physical & Mental Requirements: 
 
Physical Requirements:
  • Sit for extended periods, stand and walk as required in classrooms.
  • Manipulate computer keyboard.
  • Keen hearing:  (ability to listen to others)
  • Vision:  Close and distance vision required.
  • Be able to communicate.
  • Be able to properly and legally operate a school vehicle as required to travel on behalf of the district.
  • Regularly lifts up to 25 lbs.
  • Ability to bend and stoop.
           
 
Mental Requirements:
  • Ability to read directions, instructions, both written, and spoken.
  • Ability to communicate effectively.
  • Ability to respond to common inquiries or complaints from customers, regulatory agencies, or members of the business community and the Board of Education.
  • Ability to write documents and effectively present information.
  • Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. 
  • Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.
  • Ability to function professionally during high stress situations.
  • Ability to implement, facilitate, and complete multiple projects in a timely and efficient manner.
 
Work Environment:
 
Primarily an office/clinical/lab/shop environment; walking and working with students and staff.  Full-time Program Instructors may work near mechanical equipment on and near moving mechanical equipment, fumes or airborne particles, and outdoor weather conditions.  Occasionally working around loud noises associated with maintenance machinery, equipment.

PART TIME POSITIONS

Purpose of Job: 

Teach or instruct vocational or occupational subjects at the postsecondary level to students who have graduated or left high school. Subjects to be taught include technical & industrial trades, business skills, health careers, safety, leadership skills, and  life long learning classes. Teaching may take place at the Career Tech, at a satellite facilities  or at a business location.  Availability will be on a part time as needed basis throughout the fiscal year. 

Requirements: 

At least 3 years of experience in the last 5 years in area of instruction and/or specific trade certification, if required.

 

Subject matter experts needed to instruct classes in the absence of the regular instructor. 

 

Requirements include:

  1. Certification in the subject matter area if required by the governing agency.
  2. Three - Five years experience in the subject matter area.
  3. Experience with a learning management system preferred.
